Each year, suppliers unveil the products that they hope will deliver sales over the hugely profitable festive period. For retailers it marks the start of a season where space is cleared and shelves are decked with all manner of seasonal snacks. Here, we take a look at some of the launches most likely to drive your sales between now and the big day.
Furniss
For retailers looking to add something new at the high-end of the market, then Furniss, the original Cornish biscuit manufacturer has updated its packaging and introduced a new Gingers Gift Pack (rrp £5.99) contains Dark Chocolate, Original and Spiced Lemon biscuits.
Mars has a number of new products launching this year, including Maltesers Giant Cracker, Merryteaser Reindeer Advent Calendar and Milky Way Magic Stars tube. Many favourites will be returning, including Galaxy Gift For You in white chocolate. Merryteaser Reindeer was its leading self-eat product last year, so there will be a big push on that one too.
With 32% of the Christmas chocolate market, Mondelez International is the leading player. This year, joining the Cadbury Dairy Milk Mousse Snowman Vanilla is a Chocolate version. The Hollow Santa and Snowman novelties have been relaunched under the Cadbury Dairy Milk brand. Also getting new addition this year will be the Cadbury stocking selection box, which now includes Cadbury Dairy Milk Marvellous Creations Jelly Popping Candy. Plus, Mini Wispa is joining the Celebrations selection.
Bassetts Trio, Maynards Trio and Maynards Party Trio are all back this Christmas with new designs along with Bassetts Liquorice Allsorts also joining this line up.
Liquorice Allsorts will also be available in a tub for the first time ever, joining Maynards Sports Mix, Bassetts Jelly Babies, Maynards Wine Gums and Cadbury Eclairs.
Bassetts has also launched two new gifting jars for Christmas, using two of its best known confectionery characters, Bertie Bassett and Bubbles, the yellow Jelly Baby. Both are available now.
The first ever Werther’s Original assortment gift pack, Werther’s Original Golden Mix, is driving NPD at Storck UK this Christmas. The variety pack includes five different variants; Butter Candies, Creamy Filling, Caramel Fudge, Chewy Toffee and Chocolate Eclairs.
Backing this is the new Toffifee Seasonal 400g pack, which sits alongside the popular 100g pack.
Quality Street has long been Nestlé’s star performer at Christmas and this year the brand’s diversification is extending into a My Orange Bar, consisting of four Orange Crunch pieces and has an rrp of 65p. Quality Street is also introducing a 1.3kg tin at £8.99 rrp. While much of the company’s products will be returning successes, there is also two new After Eight lines. After Eight Selection (rrp £4.01) contains dark, milk and white chocolate fondants, while the new After Eight Tin features Big Ben and contains two 200g After Eight cartons.
A new limited Terry’s Chocolate Orange Milk Toffee Crunch leads the way, while Terry’s Orange Exploding Candy Mini’s is launching in bag format to join last year’s successful range.
Also new for Christmas 2014 will be a brand new format, aiming to attract a new Toblerone customer. The new 60g product is a thinner triangle featuring Toblerone chocolate and nougat, making it easier to bite into, easier to share and small-store friendly with a 1 x 12 clip strip available.
Ferrero
A new premium assortment range leads the way for Ferrero this year. Ferrero Golden Gallery, is a mixed luxury box that will retail in a 22 pack (rrp £7.99) and a 45 pack (rrp £14.99). A 150g box format will be available from the Raffaello while two new seasonal formats will also join the line-up this year: Ferrero Rocher Star Tree Decoration and a Raffaello Star Tree Decoration (rrp £1.99).
Jacob’s Christmas Crackers leads the charge from UB. The 450g pack (rrp £4.29) includes novelty Cream Crackers with yuletide messages embossed on the product. Jacob’s Cracker Selection adds to the company’s convenience offering. Arriving in a 170g pack (rrp £1.00), it is the perfect size for sharing. Lastly, Jacob’s Tin contains four 200g roll wraps (2x Jacob’s Cream Crackers, 1x Cracked Blacked Pepper and 1x Choice Grain) in a new design tin.
On the McVities front, there are new looks for Victoria and Family Circle while a number of festive favrouites will be returning.
With sharing high on the agenda over Christmas, KP Snacks is introducing larger, shareable bags of its KP Big Bag Nuts range (450g at £3.29 rrp) in Salted, Dry Roasted, Salt & Vinegar and Spicy Chilli flavours. An entirely new line for 2014 is KP Coated Nuts (250g at £2.50 rrp), which comes in Sour Cream & Onion and Sweet Chilli flavours. Cheese & Tomato Christmas Crackers (150g at £2.50 rrp) is another new product while keeping to a snacking theme, Limited Edition Phileas Fogg Fire Roasted Chilli Taco Rolls, and Penn State Sour Cream and Chive Christmas Tree Pretzels will add a bit of fun to proceedings.
£1 price-marked-packs will be available for twelve weeks across eight impulse SKUS.
There aren’t many people who don’t enjoy indulging in cake at Christmas, and helping facilitate this practice is McVitie’s Cake Company, which among its range this year is a new Festives Faves range encompassing Chocolate Fudge Cake Bars, Merry Cherry Mini Rolls and Frosty Mint Digestive Slices (all £1 rrp for five or six packs).
In addition, Galaxy Mistletoe Kisses and McVitie’s Penguin Yule Logs (both rrp £1) both return after a successful 2013.
While Santa does tend to hog the limelight at Christmas, Mr Kipling also enjoys himself. This year the brand is introducing a number of new products with the attractive £1 price point. First up is Mr. Kipling Gingerbread Whirls, which as the name suggests feature a Gingerbread flavoured whirl, filled with soft buttercream. Joining this is Cadbury Snow Cake Bars – a chocolate sponge, topped with a white chocolate ‘snow’ cream and covered in milk chocolate.
Burton’s Biscuit Company is pushing out seven products this year in its Cadbury Christmas Biscuits range. Among these is a new Cadbury Dairy Milk biscuit tin (220g) featuring shortcake biscuits smothered in Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate, in a collectable, premium tin.
A secondary novelty line has been also added to the range, specifically for the growing value channel – Cadbury Santa’s Arctic Friends (175g), which will do its bit for filling the nation’s stockings.
Magnum Minis have proven to be a huge success since their launch and last Christmas, Magnum Mini Baileys and Magnum After Dinner, added a new dimension to the Christmas dinner. This year the brand is launching Magnum Minis White & White Almond variant to its Minis portfolio, as well as re-launching the popular Magnum Mini Baileys and Magnum After Dinner. Magnum Minis are available in packs of six with an rrp of £3.89 and Magnum After Dinner is available in packs of ten with an rrp of £3.89.
