Irish whisky brand Waterford has bottled a new heavily peated Irish whisky, Waterford Peated: Lacken, distributed exclusively by Speciality Brands and available now with a £90 RSP.
Lacken is made from single farm origin barley, grown on Lacken farm in Co. Wexford, and made using traditional methods of whisky production to impart more flavours from the peat.
Each bottle features a unique code that validates and verifies every stage of its journey through harvesting, storage, malting, distillation and maturation.
Mark Reynier, founder and CEO of Waterford Distillery, commented: “Our ongoing exploration into the old ways of whisky-making have taken us, once again, to forgotten flavours: Irish peat, the original taste of Irish whisky. Having demonstrated the unique flavours from our first peated Single Farm Origins, and that terroir trumps peat, we decided to dial up the smoke.
“This new brace of Single Farm Origins – using Irish peat and Irish barley – have been peated to levels higher than most of the famous Islay whiskies, and certainly the most for an Irish whisky. And guess what? Those terroir flavours are still distinct and still apparent.”
Waterford Peated: Lacken is the latest addition to the distillery’s Arcadian Farm Origins series, joining last year’s release Peated: Ballybannon.
