Views sought on new licensing qualifications

Licensed retailers are invited to take part in a survey to help ensure the Scottish Personal Licence Holder and Refresher qualifications are fit for purpose and add value to businesses.

The survey forms part of an independent review that skills and quality assurance specialist People 1st International is conducting on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Operators, training providers, awarding organisations and other stakeholders across the licensed retail industry are being engaged to ensure the views of the industry are heard and incorporated into the revised standards. Ultimately, the aim is to transform them into simple, fit for purpose qualifications that provide individuals with a professional development standard – as well as meeting licensing legislation.

The review is now in its final stages after a steering committee – which included the SGF – and a series of focus groups hammered out the details of the qualifications. It is important now that as many people as possible have their say on the proposed content.

People 1st International will submit the revised standard to the Regulator, SQA Accreditation, for approval in October 2019 and the new qualifications are planned to be available in May 2020.

The online survey closes on 9 September.
