Nutrition plays a bigger part in sport than ever before, with sportsmen and women no longer able to eat pies, down pints of lager and smoke fags before they take to the pitch, or track, or court and so on. For the league-chasing (and possibly league winning by the time SLR goes to press) Liverpool football team, they’ll now be spending their lunch breaks tucking into Subways after the sandwich chain signed up to be Liverpool’s Official Training Food provider as part of a multi-year deal. Super striker Daniel Sturridge certainly looks pleased with the deal – though it’s not been confirmed if boss Brendan Rogers will let him him get a cookie as part of his lunchtime meal deal.
