Former footballer Robbie Savage was no stranger to sparkly makeup and revealing costumes during his stint on Strictly Come Dancing. The TV pundit has possibly taken things a (quick) step too far though in partnering John Smith’s for its latest marketing wheeze.
In what can only be described as the deadliest application of metallic paint since Jill Masterson incurred the wrath of Goldfinger, Savage has stripped down and sprayed up to drive awareness of John Smith’s Golden Ale.
To celebrate the launch of its first new beer in 22 years, the brand opened the John Smith’s Golden Tanning Pub. The pop-up offered men a chance to sample the new brew whilst receiving a gold spray tan. It is unclear how many members of the public opted to join Savage for a golden shower however.
The activity also marked the start of a four-week-long out-of-home advertising campaign, which will cover 1,000 sites nationwide.
In a glittering career which included winning the Second Division play-off with Crewe Alexandra, the Welsh ex-midfielder never quite got his hands on the coveted Golden Boot award, but at least Savage can now say he is the proud owner of a golden foot.
