Snact’s Banana Bar focuses on taste not waste

Tapping into the trend for healthy snacking, Snact has unveiled a new Banana Bar. The launch coincides with the re-branding of its existing Fruit Jerky range.

The Banana Bar has been created as part of a campaign to “create more taste and less waste”. This aims to reduce the amount (1.4 million) of edible bananas being thrown away in Britain every day, by using fruit that would otherwise get discarded.

The three flavours available are Apple & Cinnamon, Carrot & Spice and Beetroot & Cacao.

The bars are vegan friendly, gluten-free, provide vitamins and nutrients, have less than 130 calories each and are free-from flavourings, colourants or artificial sweeteners.

To further their eco credentials, the bars are also wrapped in home-compostable packaging. However, the brand’s owners are keen to point out that they are as much about taste as they are waste.

Ilana Taub, Snact Director, explained: “The success of natural ingredient snack bars in supermarkets and health stores is clear to see, but with almost all of the bars using a date base there is surprisingly little diversity in taste and texture. We’ve been out taste testing with bar samples and nearly everyone we’ve spoken to says they prefer the banana base, which gives the bars a deliciously soft and moist texture, which is perhaps not surprising given it’s the nation’s favourite fruit.”

Snact’s new Banana Bar (RSP £1.39) is available now in cases of 16 from Brakes and several health food wholesalers including CLF, Marigold, Infinity and Diverse Fine Foods.
