With Super Bowl 51 taking place in Houston, Texas this Sunday (5 February), retired NFL star Marshawn Lynch has made the trip to Houston, Renfrewshire to publicise Skittles.
Equipped with a pushbike and a bag full of sweets, Lynch met with residents to drive awareness of the brand as well as the upcoming game.
The former Seattle Seahawks running back generated more publicity than expected, however. Mobile phone footage of him swerving to avoid an oncoming bus in Paisley has been widely circulated online.
Dan Newell, Wrigley confections marketing manager, commented: “Not only does the comical trip highlight Skittles’ involvement in the event, it confirms consumer’s love of the brand – from Houston, Texas, to Houston, Scotland.
“Recognised and aired worldwide, the Super Bowl highlights a fantastic opportunity for retailers to boost sales around the Big Night In occasion. Focus on stocking Skittles sharing bags, to appeal to families and groups of friends that are planning on tuning into watch the Super Bowl event.”
Skittles has put together a short film of Lynch’s exploits, which raises a smile or two. The clash of cultures can be viewed on SLR’s Shopflix site.
