Nearly 80% of Scottish retailers are worried that the current energy crisis could put their business at risk, according to research by the SGF.

The survey reveals that retailers are experiencing a wide spectrum of energy cost increases, ranging from 50% to as high as 800%.

In addition, retailers said it may affect the produce they stock, meaning fewer chilled and frozen items available in store, and their capacity to employ an adequate number of staff.

The SGF said: “Many businesses are struggling to cope with rising energy bills and the possibility of energy prices significantly increasing over the coming months may mean producers and retailers will have to pass those costs on to customers.”
