SGF has announced the passing of its longest serving elected member Tom Wilson at 83.

Tom served in every National Executive Committee, including representing SGF as President twice, and was the Scottish representative on the Committee of Commerce & Distribution in Brussels.

Additionally, he served on the Thistle Guild of Spar and later became joint Chairman of the Nisa Scotland committee.

He ran a family convenience store business, which over the years had shops in Stirling, Edinburgh and Lennoxtown, from 1963 until his retirement in 2017.

SGF Chief Executive, Pete Cheema, said: “Tom was resolutely committed to supporting our sector and gave endlessly to both his community and all of the many organisations he worked with.”

He added: “Tom was a passionate spokesperson for the convenience sector, and he will be sorely missed. Our deepest condolences and thoughts go out to his wife, son and daughter in law, and their family.

Tom is survived by his wife Anne, his son Iain and his partner Louise, along with their four children.

The funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday 17 November, at Stirling Crematorium.
