Scottish Grocers Federation has announced the appointment of Martin Devlin as the new Commercial Manager of PGMA, the Federation’s buying group.
Devlin has over 30 years’ experience in Scottish retail, working up through the industry from Branch Manager, Regional Business Manager and most recently in Head Office functions. He has worked across many fascias including Somerfield, Scottish Co-op and Scotmid’s Semichem brand. More recently he diversified into the wholesale side of the industry with Booker.
He steps into the shoes of Jim Amabile, who will officially retire on 31 August after 21 years with SGF.
Pete Cheema, SGF Chief Executive, commented: “It is with great pleasure to welcome on board Martin Devlin. I know that he will enjoy becoming part of the SGF and PGMA team. We run a tight ship where everyone supports everyone else with great positivity and a can-do attitude. I’m sure that Martin will fit right in and bring his experience and expertise to further enhance and support the team at SGF.”
Outlining his vision for the future development of PGMA, Martin Devlin said: “Firstly, I would like to thank Jim Amabile for his sterling work with PGMA over the past 20 plus years. Building on these strong foundations and working with our key partner Costcutter, we have an exciting future ahead for independent retailers in Scotland.
“We are already working collaboratively on a plan to build & develop PGMA for the future and I hope to be in a position to share more on this exciting plan at the upcoming SGF conference. I look forward to being a real asset for our PGMA members and working alongside Pete Cheema and the rest of the SGF team to help further strengthen the independent convenience retail sector within Scotland.”
