Scotmid senior staff paid a visit to the Isle of Wight recently to celebrate the naming of the ‘Spirit of Cooperation,’ a new lifeboat funded by the efforts of the co-operative’s colleagues, members and customers.
Scotmid President Eddie Thorn attended the naming ceremony at the RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat Centre, where the vessel was constructed. He was accompanied by Scotmid Chief Executive Karen Scott, its Head of Membership and Community Engagement Lynne Ogg, and the now-retired CEO John Brodie.
Over the course of a year-long charity partnership with the RNLI, the Scotmid community raised £274,000 through various initiatives, including a ‘Lift a Lifeboat’ challenge.
The funding has allowed the RNLI to add the Atlantic 85 lifeboat to their relief fleet. As one of the RNLI’s fastest vessels, the Atlantic 85 is perfectly suited for emergency responses in open waters.
Eddie Thorn, Scotmid president, expressed pride in the achievement: “Spirit of Cooperation symbolises what we can achieve when we unite with a shared purpose. Our partnership with the RNLI, fuelled by dedication and teamwork, raised £274,000. These efforts will save lives, and there is no greater gift we can give to our communities.”
