Manchester-based importer Morgenrot has bolstered its Spanish portfolio with the launch of two craft beers from Rioja’s Cervecera Artesana.
The new beers now available include Palax, a bottle-conditioned artisan lager, and Ceriux Rubia, a double-fermented craft ale, which is known as “the beer with a touch of wine”.
Palax (4.9% abv) is described as “offering aromas of honey and citrus fruits, this bottled conditioned beauty provides an intricate, full, rounded taste and utilises Hallertau Tradition hops for that classic crisp finish”. The beer is packaged in a stylish, specially designed 33cl bottle and has an rrp of £1.99 to £2.49.
Morgenrot says Ceriux Rubia (5.4% abv) is a “unique, highly-expressive blond craft ale made using Perle and Cascade hops. The beer undergoes an ageing process of over a month in between fermentations and intriguingly also has concentrated Viura and Tempranillo grape musts added to it that are provided by the Nivarius winery next door. The musts impart aromas and flavours, making it refreshing and complex with a beautifully balanced bitter finish that lengthens its taste.” The beer is packaged in a sleek 37.5cl bottle and has an rrp of £2.99 to £3.49.
Both Cervecera Artesana beers are exclusive to the off-trade and join Morgenrot’s collection of world beers including Krombacher, Windhoek, Sleemans, Quilmes, Pelforth and Spanish brand Alhambra, which Morgenrot has grown from the 1,000 hectolitre brand it was in 2012 to the plus 7,000 hl one it is now.
Morgenrot Commercial Director John Critchley commented: “Since I first tried the Palax and Ceriux beers, I have been desperate to get the brewery’s UK distribution rights as they epitomise what is great about Spanish food and drink. The beers are of unbelievable quality, packed full of flavour and great with food and friends. With the brewery’s Riojan provenance and sublime packaging, we’re delighted to be the official UK importers and expect huge things in the coming years.”
