Mahmood Saleem (pictured, right) has been crowned Scottish Local Retailer of the Year at the 2017 SLR Rewards. His Ardeer Service Station in Stevenston picked up a further two gongs at the glittering event, winning Best New Store of the Year and the ThinkSmart Innovation Award.
His reward for scooping Scottish convenience retailing’s top prize is a trip to Chicago in October to attend the NACS Conference, the industry’s biggest trade event.
Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel was packed with the brightest and best of the industry for the awards ceremony, which was hosted by TV presenter and comedian Des Clarke.
Industry stalwart Kate Salmon, Executive Director of the Scottish Wholesale Association, was presented with the Special Recognition award in acknowledgement of a career spanning more than 35 years in the wholesale industry, and her drive in shaping the SWA we know today.
“Once again the SLR Rewards has stood out as the only event in the industry calendar where our worthy winners are rewarded for their efforts with a fantastic prize,” said Antony Begley, SLR Publishing Director. “This year we’re sending retailers on trips to Chicago and Amsterdam, to watch Champions League football, to music festivals as VIP guests, and on fine dining experiences. Other Rewards include a ton of cool tech like Apple watches, iPads, tablets and an Amazon Echo.
“It’s great to be able to give Scotland’s finest retailers something more than a trophy.”
