Retailers set for bumper weekend with record Lotto jackpot

With tomorrow’s record breaking £57.8m Lotto jackpot guaranteed to be won, Camelot has warned retailers to expect a busy hour prior to sales closing at 7.30pm on Saturday night. Sales of tickets during this time are estimated to soar to over 400 a second.

James Pearson, Camelot’s Head of Retail Channel, offered this advice: “Retailers should make the most of a great sales opportunity to boost their bottom line, by talking to their customers about the giant jackpot and urging those who want to play to get their tickets now.”

Camelot is also helping retailers deliver the message that the jackpot must be won on Saturday with a national in-store poster campaign.

According to The Sunday Times Rich List 2015, if a single player wins the entire jackpot they will have a fortune to rival some of music’s biggest stars. Chris Martin and each member of Coldplay is worth £52m, while Kylie Minogue can afford plenty of pairs of gold hot pants with £55m in the bank. A single winner of the Lotto jackpot would be worth more than half of One Direction, with Liam, Louis, Niall and Harry worth £25m apiece.
