Fair play to Merrydown, which has made the bold move to extend its sweet cider brand with a more premium medium cider. The new Merrydown
dispenses with the traditional packaging for a more contemporary, playful image featuring an animated fox. While it looks the part, the big question for retailers is whether it will prove popular with customers. Over to Woodlands Local Store Manager, Gerry Begley. “For a start, Merrydown have done a great job with the point of sale. They’ve used navigational floor stickers in the shape of footsteps to lead customers to the fixture, where further POS points out the product. To be honest, we had started selling well before we put the POS in place and now it’s there it’s certainly been challenging the big selling ciders on the sales front.”
