Post Office staff will strike for the third time this year on 11 July after the company’s pay offer was rejected by the Communication Workers Union.
The news comes after the CWU rejected a 3% pay offer with effect from 1 April and a £500 lump sum fee which it called “woefully inadequate”. Union members voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action by 97.3%.
This will be the third national strike by Post Office workers in 2022 after industrial action was taken in May and June.
In addition, Post Office collection and cash delivery workers will stage their own one-day strike on 14 July.
Andy Furey, National Officer for the CWU’s Post Office members, said: “Everyone knows that the only solution here is a fair pay rise that properly rewards members for their extraordinary efforts in serving the public and delivering a profitable Post Office, while also taking due account of the extreme cost of living. And there most certainly is money available, but the management do not want to give our members their fair share.”
