KP Nuts must be well chuffed after pairing up with darts phenomenon Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler just ahead of the PDC World Championships, which concluded last month.
By the time you were probably reading about the sponsorship deal in January’s SLR, the 17-year-old arrow slinger had steamrollered his way to the title, trousering a cool half-million quid for his trouble, and giving the brand a money-can’t-buy amount of exposure courtesy of a KP logo on Littler’s arm.
The logo wasn’t actually on his arm, rather his sleeve, but you get the picture. And, if we’re being pedantic, ‘money-can’t-buy’ is actually ‘undisclosed fee’.
Under The Counter followed Littler’s progression through the tournament and it soon became clear to him that KP’s investment was money well spent, as the Warrington wunderkind was hitting the doubles faster than the Auld Boy at a free bar.
So, it’s fair to say you wouldn’t need a psychic to predict the outcome of the final, where Littler faced Dutch dartologist, Michael van Gerwen.
However, that didn’t stop Truffle, a Newcastle-based psychic pig, from correctly calling the result.
Taking time out from her day job of helping Geordies connect with nature at an urban farm, Truffle had a choice of two buckets to stick her snout in. The porker plumped for Littler, after giving Van Gerwen’s bucket the bum’s rush.
Call UTC cynical, but with Littler the 2/5 favourite to win the final, the Auld Boy couldn’t help but think it was also odds-on that the Dutchman’s bucket was empty, while Littler’s was laden with all manner of swine-seducing sweetmeats to help sway Truffle’s decision.
Who knows? There might even have been a couple of packs of peanuts lurking in there.
