Own-brand wine win for Spar

Spar Regional Selection South African Fairtrade Chenin Blanc 2021

Spar is celebrating after one of its own-label wines picked up two awards at the 2022 International Wine Challenge.

The Spar Regional Selection South African Fairtrade Chenin Blanc 2021, from Breede River Valley producer Uniwines, not only picked up the IWC Fairtrade Award but also won a Silver medal.

The £6.79 “incredibly smooth” Chenin Blanc is filled with peach and ripe pear flavours, and is best paired with creamy pasta sauces, fried fish or chicken dishes.

Spar has already won over 70 awards across its own label BWS portfolio this year and will be supporting these with instore POS and logo stickers on applicable bottles to reinforce the quality message to consumers.

Adam Georgiou, Brand Manager at Spar UK, said: “Supporting a local community is particularly important to us at Spar, it is part of who we are and ensuring producers and growers are paid a fair wage for their crop is very crucial. We made the decision as a business as it is the right thing to support our grape growing communities.”
