Nisa is running a special ‘Taste of the Orient’ promotional event from July 30 until August 19.
Products are available for retailers to order in now. These include Blue Dragon egg noodles, Blue Dragon soy sauce and Uncle Ben’s sauce jars – all at £1. Shoppers can team these with Heritage chicken breast fillets (500g for £4) to rustle up a decent Chinese meal.
Retailers are being supplied with themed POS kits to help create some in-store theatre.
The ethnic foods category grew more than 6% in value terms over the 12 months to April 2018, and Nisa is keen to capitalise on the trend. Trading Controller Ian Redhead explained: “We’re seeing more consumers come back from holidays wanting to recreate dishes they’ve eaten or recreate their favourite restaurant dishes at home.
“Once the traditional jars of sauce have been tried, the next step is to try pastes and so on for more authentic flavours.”
Redhead said C-store shoppers were increasingly looking to be inspired in-store whilst shopping for their evening meal.
“We’re encouraging our retailers to make sure their offering is appealing,” he said. “Merchandising out of the standard aisle near fresh meat and vegetables, for example, can increase basket spend.”
