Nestlé to donate 10,000 school books to Africa

Lessons in Côte d’Ivoire

Nestlé Confectionery’s biscuit bars Kitkat, Breakaway, Blue Riband, Drifter, Toffee Crisp and Yorkie have partnered with the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) to donate 10,000 school books to children in Africa.

The donation will see every child in ten primary schools in the Côte d’Ivoire receive a full set of school textbooks for their grade ready for the start of the 2015-2016 school year. Approximately 2,400 children are expected to benefit.

The ten schools have been selected from those that Nestlé UK and the WCF have built as part of the Nestlé Cocoa Plan initiative. The initiative has built forty primary schools in the country to help further improve the quality of education for children in cocoa growing communities.

A Nestlé UK & Ireland spokesperson said: “Chocolate biscuit bars are typically bought by mums for their family. This initiative will give mums the added benefit of knowing that when they buy their favourite Nestlé biscuit brands they are also helping support the education of school children in Africa. The initiative will be communicated in-store through point of sale that aims to educate shoppers in the important work of the Nestlé Cocoa Plan.”
