Müller’s milk price freeze welcomed by farmers

A decision by Müller to leave its January farm gate milk price unchanged despite continuing volatility in world dairy markets, has been welcomed by representatives of the 1,200 dairy farmers who supply the business.

The Müller Wiseman Milk Group board has also reaffirmed its support for the transparent way that the business is reflecting increases from certain customers designed to help farmers, through an additional supplementary payment each month.

Müller UK & Ireland will offer 22.35ppl to non-aligned farmers in January. The additional supplement, which is calculated at the end of each month to reflect actual sales volumes from customers who wish to pay more, was 1.751ppl for October.

Philip Rowney, Chairman of the Müller Wiseman Milk Group board which represents dairy farmers who supply the company, said: “The milk price is still badly affected by world supply and demand problems and not where we would like it to be.

However Müller is showing the benefit of investment in adding value to the milk which we produce, and we welcome its stance on its standard farm gate price, and the supplementary payments it is receiving from customers.”
