Glasgow bakery Mortons Rolls has ceased trading, according to reports.

SLR has been told that Mortons suppliers haven’t been paid for months and when they turned up to collect their orders this morning, they were told that the company “had gone bust and was closed with immediate effect”.

Retailer Natalie Lightfoot, of Londis Solo in Baillieston, told SLR: “It’s a shame, it’s a good product, it sells well. This is going to mean a drop in demand for us.”

Mortons Rolls is three months late filing its annual results with Companies House and there is an active proposal to strike off the company – a process whereby a limited company is removed from the register of companies.

HMRC was unable to comment on the case and Mortons was not answering its telephones at the time of writing.

Every week, Mortons makes 111,000 cakes, 275,000 scones, and 2 million rolls.
