Mars Chocolate Drinks and Treats has launched two new products: a Snickers Protein bar and a Mars Protein bar.

Containing 200 calories with 18 and 19g of protein respectively, the new SKUs are an attempt to capitalise on a growing market for protein, which is expected to bulk up to £358m in value by 2018.

Protein Bars is a fast growing category with sales valued at £22m, increasing by +58.4% and £8.2m compared to last year. Almost two in ten (17%) of UK consumers now typically consume food or drink that contains protein as a snack between meals.

Michelle Frost, General Manager for Mars Chocolate Drinks and Treats commented: “Protein consumption is on the increase and has made the transition from niche to mainstream. We are keen to offer consumers more choices on how to enjoy their favourite chocolate brands. Our bars combine great taste, familiar brands and clearly labelled protein content to meet growing consumer demand.”

Mars Protein and Snickers Protein bars are available now from SHS with an rrp of £2.19.
