A new roadside service station and Co-op store has opened at the A1 Gladsmuir Junction near Tranent.

Macmerry Services forms part of a new franchise agreement between the retailer and petrol forecourt business, EG On The Move.

The 24-hour service station includes four electric vehicle charging points, as well as 10 fuel pumps at the front plus six HGV and four AdBlue pumps. The Co-op convenience store provides self-service Starbucks coffee; bakery products and a focus on fresh, chilled and healthy produce; meal ideas and everyday essentials; freshly prepared sandwiches and food to go; Fairtrade products, flowers, car care goods; ready meals; and pizzas.

The site also includes a Starbucks drive-through, Subway and Greggs.

The new store is one of seven across the UK to launch on forecourts as part of an initial trial between Co-op and EG On The Move, with the potential to expand in the future.

Macmerry Services is the third Scottish site under the agreement and follows Nitshill Services in Glasgow and Portlethen Services in Aberdeenshire.

Co-op has significant growth ambitions for its franchise business, with a focus on forecourts, universities and hospitals.
