Christmas is approaching, which can only mean one thing. Actually, it means a lot of things, including a growing sense of dread in Under The Counter as he starts sweating about what to get Mrs UTC.
However, the thing we’re talking about here is the presence of a big red lorry full of cola touring the country.
And it’s definitely a lorry, not anything else, since UTC has no truck with the creeping Americanisation of the King’s English.
Readers will probably imagine – although the picture ruins the surprise – that we’re talking about Coca-Cola here. Let’s face it, the megabrand has been driving a lorryload of its ginger up and down Britain at this time of year for so long that it’s become a tradition.
What’s also traditional, however, is for the discounters to launch knock-off versions of popular products – like Aldi’s Nutoka chocolate hazelnut spread and Nordpak butter, to name but two. Now Lidl has gone one step further by unleashing its own big red lorry onto Britain’s highways – sorry – roads.
Lidl’s lorry recently went from Dundee to Southampton, dishing out more than 2,000 Middle Aisle presents and lashings of festive food samples on the way, as well as granting wishes to lucky punters.
Under The Counter has only one wish, that next year would see a Tennent’s truck tour stop right outside his house. Apologies, a Tennent’s lager lorry.
