Lidl reveals locations it wants to move into

Lidl has unveiled its wish list of 49 locations for potential new stores in Scotland, stretching from Inverness in the north to Dumfries in the south.

These include three new locations in Glasgow and a total of nine in Edinburgh.

The discounter would also like to relocate 18 of its existing stores.

The list is addition to Lidl’s plans to open hundreds of new stores across Britain. These includes locations in Dalmarnock, Alexandria, Livingston and Edinburgh, while regeneration works are ongoing to extend its existing Blantyre site.

Lidl GB’s Chief Development Officer Richard Taylor commented: “We’re planning to open hundreds of new Lidl stores but ultimately see no ceiling on our ambition or growth potential.”

The 49 locations Lidl would like to move into are:

  • Dunfermline – South
  • Edinburgh – Barnton/Davidson Mains
  • Edinburgh – City Centre
  • Edinburgh – Colinton/Currie
  • Edinburgh – Jewel/Newcraighall
  • Edinburgh – Liberton
  • Edinburgh – Morningside
  • Edinburgh – Murrayfield
  • Edinburgh – Newington/Mayfield
  • Edinburgh – Oxgangs
  • Edinburgh – Portobello
  • Ellon
  • Glasgow – Cathcart
  • Glasgow – Drumchapel
  • Glasgow – Summerston
  • Helensburgh
  • Inverness – South
  • Irvine
