On those balmy summer evenings that have been suspiciously absent from our shores this year, there’s nothing that beats a fish supper with a big pickled onion. So, UTC was intrigued to hear about a chippie that claimed to have made the world’s largest cod and chips. Thinking he could easily demolish whatever tiddler the Doncaster chippie was claiming as a record beater, UTC jumped on the train only to be met at Scawsby Fisheries with a 33lb battered cod and 64lb of chips. Having lifted the fish from the fryer using garden forks a local paratrooper who sadly lost both legs below the knee in Afghanistan got the first bite. The record trumps the previous best which was set in the US – and it’s not often we can beat them at big food.
