Inscrutable French actor, philosopher and former footballer Eric Cantona is back on TV screens this week in the latest Kronenbourg 1664 advert.
Readers who remember with fondness Kung-fu Eric’s turn in last year’s #LeBigSwim campaign for the lager brand will not be disappointed with his latest performance.
This time out Cantona teams up with a pair of intrepid canines, introduced as “the most intelligent dogs in the world: The Alsace-tians”. Cantona proceeds to chauffeur his canine chums around Alsace, where they rescue a motley selection of locals from unfortunate predicaments.
The ad can be viewed on SLR’s Shopflix site, where #LeBigSwim is also playing. They’re both worth checking out.
As well as starring in the commercial, Cantona will also appear on new limited edition packaging of Kronenbourg 1664 launching 16th May across the Off-Trade channel.
To publicise the ‘Alsace-tians’ activity, Kronenbourg 1664 is opening the ‘Bar D’Alsace-tian’: the world’s first bar staffed entirely by dogs. Yes, really.
The four-legged staff of professionally trained Alsatians will wear customised dog harnesses with a miniature wooden barrel mounted at the front to deliver Kronenbourg 1664 directly to customers at their tables. Fortunately, this inspired act of marketing lunacy will take place at a safe distance from Scotland in a bar on London’s Greek Street.
Ifeoma Dozie, Beer Brand Director at Heineken, said: “The Alsace-tians and ‘Bar D’Alsace-tian’ continue the humorous and tongue-in-cheek narrative already established in past campaigns, but take the Kronenbourg story in a completely new direction – demonstrating in a brilliantly creative way the personality, premiumness and supreme taste credentials of Kronenbourg 1664.”
