Independent retailer Jayne Shields from Kirkcudbright, in Dumfries and Galloway, has been selected as one of the winners of The Sun POS competition.

The newspaper launched its competition in July, with prize bundles worth more than £300 on offer for independent retailers who promoted The Sun in-store. Winners were randomly selected from a number of who sent in photos of their promotional activity.

Shields, who runs Thompson’s News at 23 St Cuthbert Street, has won a prize bundle containing a Boss Venom adult mountain bike, a Tom Kerridge cookbook, newspaper round delivery bags, The Sun illuminated shop sign, The Sun notebooks, and The Sun window vinyls.

Other winners were Arman Uppal, Baldev Mann and Paul Sanghera from the West Midlands, Yousif Al-Bazz from Yorkshire, and Bhavna Patel and S&S Mitchell from the East of England.

The stores that requested the POS delivered strong sales increases compared to other independent stores for the first six weeks after they received the POS materials, with over a third of the extra sales continuing into the following weeks.

Victoria Newton, Editor of The Sun, said: “I want to say a huge thank you to each independent retailer who took the time to enter our POS competition. The Sun is committed to championing the spirit of local businesses for a thriving retail community.”
