Indies take a hit as Evri cuts weekly volume bonus

Independent retailers have been left reeling after parcel carrier Evri announced plans to reduce their weekly volume bonus from April 6.

Glasgow retailer Mo Razzaq, the National President of the Federation of Independent Retailers (the Fed), said his average weekly bonus payment of £23 would drop by over 25% to just £17, meaning he would lose several hundred pounds over a year.

In a letter advising of the change, Evri highlighted the growth of shopping online and how parcel volumes had grown by tens of millions across its ParcelShops, which it described as “the heart of its business”.

The group’s success was reflected in its full year of accounts to February 29,2024, where Evri recorded a revenue of £1.7bn and a record-breaking profit of £117m, which was more than double the previous year.

Mo said: “With Evri announcing record profits and acknowledging the key role that retailers play in this, cutting our bonus payments and denying us hundreds of pounds as a result is a sharp blow indeed.”
