GroceryAid spends £4m on welfare support

People helped by GroceryAid

Figures released for the last financial year reveal that GroceryAid spent a record £3,957,787 during the last 12 months on welfare support.

This was either financial assistance or through the GroceryAid Helpline which saw more than 4,450 people call in or access online support. Financial assistance included regular financial support, one-off grants and emergency payments to assist during a difficult period, the purchase of essential basic items or various mobility services that helped people stay independent in their own homes.

This welfare support is only possible due to the excellent support of the grocery industry which resulted in a record-breaking £4,549,787 fundraising total for 2014/15. GroceryAid extends its thanks to the regional Branches whose members volunteer their time and talents to help the charity. Between them they contributed £1,095,195 in funds, which only further emphasises the important role they play in the success of the charity.

Credit is also due to the members of the President’s Fundraising Committee for the impact they made throughout the year on national fundraising. Amongst the high profile fundraising activities for GroceryAid, the Sporting Heroes Luncheon reached a new high of £361,742 and the Annual Diamond Ball a fantastic £287,563. Donations from companies and individuals totalled £1,716,877 – another record amount, for which the charity is grateful

Gillian Barker, GroceryAid Director General, commented: “I am proud to once again report on the fantastic support that we receive from the industry, both within our welfare work and in raising funds. This enables us to reach out and help even more people in need.”
