Wyke Farms, one of the UK’s largest independent cheese producers and milk processors, has won a Green Apple Environment Award, in the ‘Environmental Best Practice’ category of this year’s awards programme.
Wyke Farms competed with more than 500 other nominations and won the award for its integrated green approach encompassing renewable energy, water recovery, green farming and transport. This forms part of the company’s ‘100% Green’ sustainability plan, through which, it has dramatically reduced its carbon footprint and become the first national cheddar brand to be 100% self-sufficient using its own energy generated from solar and biogas.
Wyke Farms has been producing its award-winning cheddar for over a century and has grown to become one of the largest family-owned cheese makers in Britain selling over 13,000 tonnes annually. The Wyke Farms products are available nationwide.
The Green Apple awards are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
