Nathalie Fullerton, owner of One Stop Dumbarton Road in Glasgow, has been named a Christmas Star on channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show for her community efforts.
The kindly retailer won £1,000 in a competition, but decided to give it away to a deserving customer by organising a Facebook competition. The grateful single parent who won the prize said that they would use it to give their kids “the best Christmas ever”.
Nathalie was in shock when she received a call from the TV show’s production team inviting her to be on the programme. “I actually thought the staff were winding me up, but it was really nice to be noticed in that way,” she told SLR.
The cash giveaway is one of many community initiatives Nathalie has embarked on.
Last month she raised hundreds of pounds for Children In Need by dressing up as Pudsey Bear and running a meet and greet session at the store. And only last week she gave away free bouquets of flowers to her customers. “It was so well received,” she said. “People were over the moon.”
She added: “From the business point of view, it’s our USP – we are the community store and we like to try and involve our community in different activities, people remember that.”
