Camelot has announced that advance play on the Euromillions and Euromillions HotPicks games is being temporarily curtailed because of the coronavirus outbreak.
A four-week countdown for advance play is now in effect. This means that people will only be able to play in advance up to and including the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday 14 April (a maximum of eight draws). As each week passes, the number of weeks that people can play in advance will reduce accordingly. Players will still be able to buy tickets on a draw-by-draw basis and the draws themselves will take place as planned.
The four-week countdown works as follows:
- From Wednesday 18 March, players will be able to play in advance for four weeks (eight draws)
- From Wednesday 25 March, players will be able to play in advance for three weeks (six draws)
- From Wednesday 1 April, players will be able to play in advance for two weeks (four draws)
- From Wednesday 8 April, players will be able to play in advance for one week (two draws)
While there are currently no plans to suspend or cancel EuroMillions because of Covid-19, the move is a sign that the draw’s 10 operators across Europe are preparing for the worst. Spain has already suspended the sale of all lottery games and France, where the draws are held and filmed, is also facing severe restrictions on movement to combat coronavirus.
This also means that the HotPicks game, which is based on the numbers drawn in the main EuroMillions game, could be affected.
Advance play for all other National Lottery draw games remains unaffected.
