Speciality Brands has brought a new Irish whiskey to the UK with the arrival of Drumshanbo Single Malt Irish Whiskey 2021 Galánta (RSP £95).
The whiskey is a limited edition of 6,000 bottles and the first single malt to be distilled in the province of Connacht in 107 years. The name Galánta means bravery and excellence in Gaelic.
Made from 100% Irish malted barley, Drumshanbo Galánta is aged in specially selected Kentucky ex-bourbon barrels and Marsala wine casks.
It was created by Head Distiller Brian Taft at The Shed distillery of PJ Rigney in 2014 and bottled in 2021 at 46% ABV. It has no colour added and is non-chill filtered, with each bottle numbered.
Speciality Brands MD Chris Seale commented: “We’re always looking to bring new and interesting whiskey to British drinkers. Drumshanbo Galánta is a stunning release from The Shed Distillery which is known to create spirits of exceptional quality.
“With the category growing by +68% in two years, the appeal of Irish whiskey in the UK shows no sign of abating. We think this rare edition will be sought after by whiskey enthusiasts looking for something special to try.”
