Do ya drink my whisky?

Wolfie's whisky

Some guys have all the luck, as the song goes. While Under The Counter considers himself lucky if Mrs UTC picks up a half-bottle of Famous Grouse while doing the big shop, ageing rocker Rod Stewart is fortunate enough to have his very own brand of the hard stuff, Wolfie’s Whisky.

Unfortunately for Sir Rod, Lady Stewart – or Penny Lancaster as she is better known – could never find Wolfie’s as she trudged round Tesco doing the big shop. Which is a shame because she could have been getting 35 Clubcard points.

All that changed though, when the brand won a listing in more than 400 Tesco stores nationwide – including the Bishop’s Stortford branch close to Rod’s Essex mansion. So, just as soon as he could figure out which of his high-performance luxury cars to go in, Scotland’s greatest living Englishman zoomed down to the retail park to buy a bottle.

The 79-year-old ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’ singer, whose presence in the supermarket surprised and delighted shoppers in equal measure, said: “It’s just wonderful to see Wolfie’s in pride of place here at Tesco.”

What wasn’t so wonderful was Penny’s reaction when Rod got back up the road with a bottle and discovered he’d forgotten to take the Clubcard with him.

Now, UTC has received more than one domestic dressing down himself over the years, so he reached out to Rod to see if he was OK. The response: “I don’t want to talk about it.”
