Spar Scotland has launched a six-month initiative designed to highlight the benefits of joining Spar and working with CJ Lang & Son.
‘Discover Spar Scotland’ aims to drive awareness, engagement, and business growth opportunities among independent retailers who have yet to partner with the symbol group.
To kick-start the campaign, Spar Scotland launched a new lorry livery featuring independent retailer Saleem Sadiq of Spar Renfrew. Saleem started off in Spar Duntocher in 1984, with the store staying in the family until just recently, before moving to Spar Renfrew in 1994. Since then, Spar Renfrew has grown significantly, becoming one of the most awarded independently owned symbol stores in Scotland. Over the years, both Saleem and members of his team have been recognised with multiple Scottish retailing awards, including a number of SLR Awards, and he has played a key role in shaping the wider industry.
Saleem said: “As a family, we have had a long and successful retailing career with Spar Scotland. Throughout this journey, we have always been supported by the team in Dundee, benefiting from an excellent delivery service, strong product availability, and first-class marketing and promotional support. Their commitment to customer service has been invaluable.
“The standout feature for us is the Spar own label range, which provides our customers with high quality products at incredible prices. Our goal is to grow our business sustainably, ensuring its success not only today but for generations to come, with Spar Scotland as the only symbol group capable of supporting us along the way.”
Brian Straiton, Independent Sales Director for CJ Lang & Son, added: “We are really pleased with how Saleem and his family business have grown over the years and the role we have played in supporting them. We work closely with independent retailers on store developments, ensuring they retain their strong local identity while continuing to evolve. Independent retailers like Saleem offer local communities real choice with the unique flair that only independent retailing can bring. We are committed to continuing our support for independent retailers, helping them grow their businesses and build lasting partnerships.”
The Discover Spar Scotland campaign aims to engage retailers across Scotland, encouraging independent retailers to get in touch to learn more about how CJ Lang & Son can support their business growth and development. Scottish retailers are also invited to attend Spar Scotland’s annual trade show, conference, and awards evening in Aviemore on 25 September to discuss potential partnerships. There are a limited number of fully funded places available for the event, for retailers interested in joining Spar. Email discover@sparscotland.co.uk to book your place or to find out more about the campaign.
