Refrigeration and food to go are key focus areas for the new look Scotmid Ferry Road in Edinburgh, which re-launched on August 30, following an 11 week refit.
The outlet has been expanded from 1,600sq ft to 2,000sq ft and boasts new signage and a wider entrance door and aisles to improve accessibility. In addition to expanding the sales area, the back-of-house infrastructure has been upgraded to support these enhancements.
The store has taken on new recruits, with team numbers increasing 36%.
The shop’s food to go offer has expanded with more hot food and baguettes, as well as Rollover Hotdogs and the introduction of a Healthier Snacking line and The Kitchen selection.
There are also new drinks to go offerings from Slush Puppy and a Skwishee machine, which sits alongside a Costa Express coffee machine and a freezer dedicated to Frozen Treats.
Four bays (five metres) of refrigeration were added allowing the store to increase space across multiple chilled categories, including fresh produce and meat.
To add a unique touch, the store has introduced new ranges in Health & Wellbeing, Mediterranean, and World Foods.
By adopting a phased approach, the firm was able to remain open for the duration of the refit, aside from three days for essential transitions between phases.
