More than 200 grocery colleagues recently put their thinking caps on at the Emirates Stadium for the sixth GroceryAid Quiz Night, raising £35,000 for the industry charity in the process.
The evening, sponsored by Heineken UK, saw teams tackle six testing rounds hosted by Sky News presenter Tom Macleod. A higher or lower bonus round based on GroceryAid knowledge also saw some fierce competition; congratulations go to Jonathan Westlake from Dairy Crest for his impressive swotting.
It was the fittingly-named ‘Bright Sparks’ team from Sparkler who claimed glory. They edged a nail-biting clash with last year’s champs, the Association of Convenience Stores, by just two points. Greencore Group finished third.
Sparkler ended five years of hurt with the win, reclaiming the title they earned during the inaugural GroceryAid Quiz Night in 2012. Their reward? A mouth-watering private cookery lesson at Jamie Oliver’s Cookery School.
Despite failing to bother the podium places, the team from Bakkavor Group had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. “We all had a brilliant time and it was very well organised,” they commented.
GroceryAid extended its thanks to all of the teams who participated. It also acknowledged the event’s sponsors: Britvic, Heineken, Highland Spring, Sainsbury’s, Marks and Spencer, Mars, PepsiCo and Tesco.
