Eating hot pies is something of a pastime for Under the Counter – if you don’t scald the roof of your mouth with that first bite then it needs a wee minute in the microwave. That said, he was utterly wrong-footed when he read about Scotmid’s hot pie challenge and thought his teflon tongue would make him a winner. Turns out the heat comes not from the oven, but the phaal curry paste used to make the pie. The Stuart’s Fiery Pie from Stuart’s of Buckhaven also uses chopped up chillies to increase its intensity.
