Bestway and Batleys are no longer charging its customers for credit card transactions across its websites, mobile app or at its 60 Bestway and Batleys depots nationwide.
Younus Sheikh, Managing Director of Bestway Wholesale said: “Retailers need to work off healthy margins in order to be successful and profitable. In many categories, they are coming under pressure from the multiples and discounters and although promotions and price marked packs help them compete, the margins on these are less that on standard packs or single sales. By waiving the charge for credit card sales not only are Bestway and Batleys helping customers manage their cash flow but we are also saving them up to 2% on the cost of goods.”
The abolition of Credit Card processing fees is the latest in a line of measures the group has introduced over the past few months to help customers increase their profitability. In March, the group announced its Price Pledge which brought everyday low pricing on a number of essential lines. This was followed in April with the launch of The Great Rebate promotion, which runs through to the end of September, offering a minimum rebate of 3% on category bestsellers; and the My Rewards scheme, offering Best-one members up to 5% cashback on their purchases.
The group is determined to ensure that customers continue to see the benefit of shopping at Bestway and Batleys. Sheikh continued: “Bestway and Batleys have a reputation for offering customers the best value in the sector through low prices and excellent promotions. With competition becoming more fierce for our customers we want to ensure that we do everything we can to help them deliver organic and sustainable growth.
“We believe in stakeholders rather than shareholders and that our customers’ success is tied to own success. We are funding this initiative so that our customers are able to trade more profitably in an increasingly competitive environment and fulfil our obligation of building business for independents.”
The abolition of credit card charges now means that customers can choose to buy goods from the Bestway Group by cash, cheque, credit and debit card or on account (subject to status) without any additional surcharges, giving them total flexibility over their spending with the group.
