Absolut has announced the launch of a new limited-edition inspired by the rediscovery of pop artist Andy Warhol’s Absolut ‘blue’ painting.
Best known for his screen prints of Campbell’s soup cans, Warhol was the first artist to create artwork based on the silhouette of Absolut’s bottle and 1985’s ‘Absolut Warhol’ is considered iconic; if you’d like one to liven up your spirits gantry, a signed print will set you back at least £27,000.
A second version was rumoured to have been created but its existence remained unconfirmed until Absolut ‘blue’ was rediscovered at auction in 2020.
Pernod Ricard has now teamed up with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to roll out Absolut Warhol, which launches initially in global travel retail before a wider release in 50 countries worldwide from September in both 1L and 70cl bottles.
Proceeds will support the philanthropic work of the foundation in advancing the visual arts.
The bottle features a multi-layered screen-printed design in a nod to one of Warhol’s preferred techniques and uses shades of blue copied from the original artwork along with an image of the artist and his signature.
Deb Dasgupta, VP Global Marketing Absolut Vodka, said: “With the limited-edition bottle, we are excited to offer consumers everywhere a chance to become part of the Absolut Warhol legacy and to own their own piece of artwork.”
